One of the artists participating in the  Amsterdam Art Weekend at EYE is Rafaël Rozendaal. The Dutch-Brazilian artist who has risen to international fame in recent years lives in New York, where he creates internet art, tapestries and installations. In Room at the Top he will talk about his work, digital art and the evolution of his ideas.

Rozendaal draws over 50 million visitors a year with his projects for the internet, which the artist refers to as his ‘digital canvas’.

In his artist talk (60’), Rafaël Rozendaal (1980) takes the public on a tour of his work and discusses the changes in his artistic practice. Fully focused on the web at first, he later realized there were many more possibilities. As a result, his work now also encompasses tapestries, installations, podcasts, haikus and lectures.

The designs for his websites, installations and prints are driven by transformation: from movement towards abstraction, from virtual to physical space and from website to print. His artistic expressions, however, all share a common feature: they emerged out of a fascination for the moving image and interactivity in its most basic form.

Rozendaal’s work was featured at Centre Pompidou, the Venice Biennale, the Stedelijk Museum and on Times Square, New York. Valiz recently published a study on Rozendaal, with reproductions, prints, as well as essays by art historian Margriet Schavemaker, curator Kodama Kanazawa and others.

Join us at EYE for a weekend of outstanding contemporary art during Amsterdam Art Weekend. The programme has been developed in partnership with Amsterdam Art Weekend, IDFA, EYE and the Prince Claus Fund.
