Carolee Schneemann, Water Light/Water Needle, 1966, film still
Carolee Schneemann (United States, 1939) won the Golden Lion award for lifetime achievement at this year’s Venice Biennale. In 1993, speaking about her experimental performance art of the 1960s, she said: ‘I’m a painter, I’m still a painter and I will die a painter. Everything that I have developed has to do with extending visual principles off the canvas’. The Merchant House will screen Schneemann's work and discuss the significance of her performative gesture for current art.

Moderator panel discussion
Dr. Marga van Mechelen (Professor of Modern and Contemporary Art, University of Amsterdam)
