Over the past two hundred years, over three hundred Kunstvereine were established by art-loving citizens throughout Germany. These nonprofit art organizations are an important progressive factor in Germany's art landscape. Locally rooted, often run by very small teams, they focus on showing and producing works by artists who are mostly not yet embedded within bigger art institutions.
The seminar explores what we can learn from their rich history, and what are the possibilities and future prospects of this model.
This program is initiated by K_nstvl___ and Amsterdam Art, and hosted by the Goethe-Institut.
