Every year, the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten (est. 1870) selects some 25 artists from all over the world out of a total of more than 1,500 applications. The two-year residency programme located within the walls of the former Kavallerie-Kazerne (Cavalry Barracks) provides the artists with individual workshops, as well as technical, artistic, and theoretical facilities and support. Museums, collectors and other art professionals consider the Rijksakademie as the foremost source for exceptional talent and trends, and travel to Amsterdam from all over the world to discover the big names of the future.
